Biasol : Middle South East

For the Middle South East restaurant in the South Yarra neighborhood of Melbourne, Australia, the design studio Biasol reinterprets the interiors of the Middle East. Revisited in a contemporary way, materials, shapes and nuances infuse in this place an intimate and warm atmosphere.

Hybrid location, located between Oceania and East, the Middle South East extends on 228 square meters in the heart of a trendy district of Melbourne. The concept is inspired in particular by the hospitality and conviviality of the Arabic culture by allowing its guests to meet at any time of the day - from breakfast to dinner - in a setting with warm tones evoking the desert .

After crossing a convivial terrace made of wooden benches, the customer enters the restaurant by a bay window, positioned in front of the central bar clad in pink terracotta tiles and terrazzo. Light wooden square tables with a capacity of up to four guests are placed along a south-facing glass wall, providing a significant and continuous presence of natural light in the dining room. Others, round, are installed randomly on each side of the central counter and take up the same mineral material. There is also the terrazzo in different places of the restaurant, whether for the water station, the shelves or the pots that welcome the greenery dotted throughout the restaurant.

"By creating the materiality and color palette of the restaurant, we echo the significant land of Middle Eastern architecture. " Jean-Pierre Biasol, founder of the studio Biasol

Entirely covered with beige, the walls are decorated with purified wall sconces whose shadows recall those created by the subdued lights of the interiors of the Middle East. To counterbalance the traditional aspect of the Arabic decorations, the gray brushed floor is left completely naked, thus giving the place an industrial aspect revisited.

Halfway between Arabian traditions and Australian minimalism, the Middle South East is the ideal place to meet in a friendly and warm setting.
