Massproductions : Rose Chair

On the occasion of the Stockholm Design Week of the Swedish capital, the young brand of local furniture Massproductions presents Rose, a chair designed by its designer and co-founder Chris Martin. Made of laminated wood, the wide-curved seat answers many technical challenges.

From tilted cabinets to hollow armchairs to cantilevered tables, one thing is certain: the Swedish design studio Massproductions likes to challenge material and gravity. For his new creation, the chair Rose, whose name comes from that of his little girl, Chris Martin chose laminated wood declined in four colors - oak, walnut, maple and a final chosen by Rose herself and unveiled during the show. A bold choice for a generous drawing in curves. Indeed, if this type of molding and assembling is experienced since the end of the 1930 years in particular by big names in design such as Charles and Ray Eames, the resulting assemblies are fragile and especially complex to achieve, especially to because of the fineness of the material and its assemblies - here glue.

"When I started the design process, I was looking for a signature piece of furniture that would have a dominant presence in a room and speak for itself. " Chris Martin, designer and co-founder of Massproductions

The 3D printing has made it possible to make many prototypes of various shapes and sizes, easily reproducible in series.

An expensive and tedious technique, but a mission filled with brio!
