Événement : Sammode fête ses 90 ans !

Few companies can boast of 90 candles while still in the air. This is the case of the French lighting brand Sammode, which proved it again at a party organized at the Musée des Beaux-Arts last month. An opportunity to come back to the story of a brilliant brand that has been illuminating us since 1927!

The name "Sammode" does not tell you anything? Yet you know its flagship element: the linear fluorescent tube, suitable for extreme temperatures - goingfrom -70 degrees Celsius to + 70 -, which can be found in private apartments as well as in cold rooms.

The story begins with Louis Lemaire, a Lorraine entrepreneur who sees electric lighting as a market of the future that few have seen in 1927. He then creates a sober desk lamp, copies of which will sell like hot cakes, marketed by the Company of Application of Modern Methods of Electrical Lighting: SAMMODE was born.

If the company wants, initially, to adapt to a large audience, composed of both professionals and individuals, it turns quickly to the industrial sector in the 1950 years, when it filed the model patent which will make its success: the Hermetic Fluorescent Tube. Then Sammode diversifies its activity in the energy sector, before refocusing in the 1990 years on architectural lighting. This is followed by a large number of collaborations with renowned architects such asJean Nouvel for the Hotel des Thermes made in Dax (40) in 1992 or Dominique Perrault for the redevelopment of the Dufour Pavilion at Versailles, for which he designs with the designer Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost contemporary chandeliers reinterpreting the grandiloquence of the residence of the Sun King.

For the past two years, the firm has been entrusting its artistic direction to Normal Studio, which combines the brand's past with private-label creations, notably thanks to the collection. Sammode Studio, imagined in 2015, which proposes luminaries reinterpreting the famous tube in an ever more innovative way.

A beautiful journey for a company that, despite its 90 years on the clock, does not seem to be ready to give up innovation!
