Nguan : Singapore

If in Paris, winter gives us cold shades, Singapore seen by the local photographer Nguan is adorned with pastel colors all seasons. Fairy tones that we find in his film series Singapore as well as in an eponymous book, released last summer.

Asian cities are inexhaustible sources of inspiration for photographers who are passionate about urban landscapes. The result is often catalogs of skyscrapers as far as the eye can see, overcrowded streets covered with polluted mist, brief dynamic, effervescent cities, but not always very relaxing. By traveling through the boulevards of his native archipelago, Singapore, Nguan sees not only a constant bubbling, but moments of tranquility suspended in time, which he captures thanks to his unique vision of a pastel world.

Although architecture has a prominent place in his work, the photographer also strives to capture the people who live its walls. A city fauna that he does not seek to sublimate but which he tracks on the contrary the moments of boredom, routine and pause in places that seem yet never sleep. Thus, his compositions depict a waltz between South Asian urbanism in perpetual development and quieter times that city dwellers necessarily need.

A series borrows delicacy that offers a unique perspective on life in Singapore.
