ChartierDalix et Brenac & Gonzalez et Associés : Lot 07

As part of the construction of the ZAC Clichy-Batignolles in Paris (17e), architecture agencies ChartierDalix and Brenac & Gonzalez and Associates have designed an office building of 24 000 square meters on the 07 Lot. An achievement highlighting the railways that face it and that vibrates to the rhythm of the sky and the activity of the employees who give life to its corridors.

Shaped by the railway activity of the north of Paris, the district of Batignolles makes since 2001 the object of an urban reconvertion. Launched by the former mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, the ZAC project Clichy-Batignolles, with an area of 43,2 hectares, includes the famous courthouse designed by Renzo Piano, the future cinema imagined by the Berthier workshop , the Martin Luther King Park of 10 hectares built by Jacqueline Osty and numerous housing and offices; all arranged on both sides of the railway tracks of the Saint-Lazare station.

To the east of these are distributed the administrative premises, partially built on a slab covering the rails, and to the west the dwellings. One of the peculiarities of this operation of heavy urban restructuring lies in its design and construction process: each lot of the ZAC is shared between two architects. This fragmentation was imposed by the designers of the area, including the architect and urban planner François Grether and OGI design office, specializing in works of public spaces development. While some winners of the competitions launched for each lot separated their plot in two, agencies ChartierDalix and Brenac & Gonzalez and Associates have for their part decided to collaborate and erect in four hands a condensing colossus 24 000 square meters of offices.

With a setback of 10 meters at its center, the asymmetrical and narrow terrain of 125 meters long, led the architects to imagine an original eight-storey building consisting of two rectangular volumes, between which is placed a vast entrance hall of 150 square meters, the upper levels of which are deformed as you ascend. From the street, to the east, the linear perspective created by the neighboring buildings is broken by the ripples of the whole.
These reliefs host a succession of terraces and runways in ribbons, which benefit from a uniform treatment thanks to the use of three types of solid cladding panels different from 1 meter wide with vertical streaks, made of molded terracotta then enamelled . Thanks to the alternation of these elements, the material seems to vibrate, with a color changing throughout the day and points of view, sometimes blue, ocher or white.

From the crossing vestibule, eight meters high under the ceiling, the tracks are staged through a large bay window 11 meters long inviting workers to admire the passage of cars. From this majestic hall, a monumental Y-shaped staircase leads to the east of a refectory and to the west a hanging garden located between the R + 1 and the R + 6, above the rails. This green space consisting of a set of footbridges and walkways, allows employees to enjoy a breathtaking view of the roofs of Paris daily.

An original realization offering an ideal working environment.
