Vincenzo Cangemi Architects : Centrale hydroélectrique

On a plain bordering the river Ragn d'Err (Switzerland), stands a strange wooden box of 265 square meters. Far from containing mysteries, the structure set up by the local Vincenzo Cangemi Architects agency is actually a discrete hydroelectric power station, perfectly integrated into the Alpine landscape.

Between opening and closing, between landscape integration and strong architectural bias, the strength of this building resides in its duality: a rectangular 23,50 single-storey structure by 11,30, whose concrete structure is left bare inside and barded of wood outside, with blades that take place between the elements of the framework and rhythm the layout of the facades, complemented by the impressions left by the banches on the beams and posts.

This blind part is surmounted by a mixed concrete / metal framework whose inclination refers to the slope of the site and the topography of the mountain in the background. Conversely, the elevation lets natural light enter the building camouflaging a semi-buried hydroelectric generator.

A sober realization that does not disrupt the topography of its exceptional site, nor the calm of the surrounding dwellings.
