VPANG / JET / Lisa Cheung : M + Pavilion

In 2019 will open the M + Museum of Hong Kong (China), dedicated to visual art. The M + Pavilion, designed by VPANG, JET and Lisa Cheung, is the first stone in the building of this future cultural zone. Laureates of the contest launched in 2013 by the Municipality, the architects imagine a tripartite building reflecting the surrounding landscape.

To present the visual, design and architectural works of the M + Pavilion, the architects conceive a clean space, echoing the tranquility of the place, slightly off center, allowing the spectators to flee agitation the moment of exposure.

To do this, the designers imagine an aerial assembly mixing facades mirror and white concrete walls, seeming to float in the air. The 878 Y square building, built into a tree-lined butte in the central part, consists of three distinct parts: the northeast reception - which will link the building to the future museum -; gallery and service rooms to the northwest; and a cantilevered promontory facing Victoria Harbor, the seafront of the city.

The relationship between architecture and nature is paramount here. The exhibition space thus includes a multitude of bay windows, bathing the rooms of natural light while connecting them visually to a tree-lined exterior.

A realization that offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy works of art in a place where tranquility and serenity reign.
