Carve + OMGEVING : be-MINE Playground

As part of the be-MINE project, aimed at developing tourism at the Beringen mining site (Belgium), the Walloon agency Carve + OMGEVING is designing an original playground that multiplies the possibilities for activities. Placed on the side of a heap of 60 meters high, this last contributes to revalorize the old industrial territory.

The intervention is located on the largest archaeological industrial site of Flanders, characterized by a steep pace, due to its immense heap high 60 meters, all the more visible as the region is flat. This 1 200 square meter adventure park created by Carve + OMGEVING is inspired by the topography of this environment and more generally the glorious past of coal mining.

The project consists of three parts: a circular coal place on top of the tumulus, a faceted play surface set up on the mountain slope, inspired by carbon-rich fuel, and a forest of Wooden poles decorated with nets and ropes delimiting the space of amusement, while allowing its users to climb it.

The adventure area has a slide, small caves where children can have fun crawling from one point to another and various courses of which the level of difficulty increases progressively As we approach the summit.

This is a great achievement for the rehabilitation of a considerable heritage landscape, the aim of which is to make Flanders an attractive and touristic area.
