COBE : The Silo

As indicated by his name, The Silo Is the result of the rehabilitation of an old grain tank 17 floors realized by the Danish architecture studio COBE. It houses both residential apartments and public reception areas. An architectural intervention that is part of a much broader urban project: the transformation of Nordhavn, a former industrial district of Copenhagen (Denmark).

By revisiting this building 10 000 square meters, the architects wanted to preserve the soul as much as possible, and in particular its monolithic aspect. Its façade, formerly in concrete, has been entirely covered: it now leaves room for an angular galvanized steel, prefabricated by panels, chosen for its raw appearance.

Within the Silo, 38 apartments take place, each with a unique configuration, for an area ranging from 106 to 401 square meters, arranged on one or more levels. Each accommodation has large windows and balconies, offering its residents a great view of the city and the coast of Øresund. Inside, the high walls of raw concrete are the ultimate trace of the original building, the facades of which are now camouflaged.

"By revitalizing our industrial heritage, we are discovering new potential and focusing on historical traces in our cities. [...] They represent our history. In so doing, we can transform what many people today perceive as industrial treasures. " Dan Stubbergaard, founder and artistic director of COBE

In addition to this, there is a space dedicated to the reception of various events and a panoramic restaurant on the top floor, entirely glazed, offering its guests a breathtaking view at 360 degrees on Copenhagen. This mixture of private and public programming allows the neighborhood to live throughout the day, which is essential in a context of urban revitalization.

This realization marks the beginning of the new life of Nordhavn, of which future projects will also be entrusted to the architects of COBE.
